My First Piano Concert

Here comes the first piano video on my YouTube channel! This is Bach in my first piano concert that I'm sharing with you.

This concert happened many years ago. It was in my sophomore year in college, and it was my very first piano concert in life. I had participated in the student music concert hosted by my piano teacher when I was a little girl, but it was way too long ago, and at that time we didn't even record. Surely it's different between performing with a group of people and having your own concert, and when I learned how to organize my own concert for the first time, I felt quite excited even though it was not an easy task to accomplish back then. However, this concert was not entirely my own concert because it was a joint concert with a classmate. A lot of people planned to have a joint concert so as to gain some experience before the graduation recital. Having a concert with someone else makes it easier because that way we don't need to prepare for an hour long program. About a 30-minute long program would be sufficient.

There is a great deal of work to do for organizing a nice concert! There are lots of steps during the process if I want to list all of them in details, but I'll just make it short here. First of all, we need to find a venue, set a date, and schedule a rehearsal time. Secondly, we have to find (the most beautiful) concert dress. Some people say that the wedding day is the most important day in our lives. Well, I say the concert day is that most important day haha, so it's necessary to take time to find the suitable dress and shoes! If you don't know how to wear makeup, then you also need to find someone to help you on the concert day. Thirdly, we should begin making invitation card, poster, and program. It takes time to do so, from taking photos, to designing and printing. When it's done, we have to start writing something on the invitation cards so as to send them out to people. Next, We should also prepare some light refreshments for the audiences so that people can stay to join the moments after the concert with us, chatting and taking pictures together. Furthermore, we need to find some people to help us on the concert day, for example, helping audiences to find the way to the venue, handing out concert programs, adjusting lighting as well as the stage curtain in the backstage, moving chairs as well as music stands on the stage, being page-turner or concert host, etc. So we should prepare gifts for them as well.

However, the most crucial thing in a concert is MUSIC. Without great music, the concert would be meaningless. When I prepared for the concert, I wish I could only focus on practicing and memorizing the music rather than dealing with all the above mentioned, but in order to present the best music and the best me in front of everyone coming to my performance, I still think it's worth to go through all the details step by step by ourselves for all the experiences will become the most precious memories in our hearts ♥️

There are 6 suites in Bach English Suites. This is the second one, and it's my favorite a minor. Somehow I really love music in a minor. To me, it feels really simple, natural, and straightforward, yet it tells a lonely story, containing a touch of sadness. The video I'm sharing with you here is Prélude from English Suite No. 2. Listening to my old piano recordings is actually quite scary haha. I really want to record all my performances every time, but I'm usually afraid to watch them afterwards because I can't bare to repeat seeing the way I look on the stage if I made any mistakes or if I don't like how it sounds like, or if I just look silly up there. I wonder if all the other musicians like to watch their own performance recordings and if actors and actresses actually enjoy watching their own movies. What do you think?

So, that's it for today! I'd like to know which suite is your favorite in Bach English Suite, and which tonality do you like the most?! Let me know in the comment section!

See you again soon :)
