The First Schumann Piece I Performed

Read in Chinese HERE (中文版)

Schumann is one of the composers whom I love very much. I'm really fascinated by the strong emotions in his music ♥️

I like many of Schumann's compositions, but the first reason I love him is because of the first movement of his work Op. 17, which was the piece I played when I auditioned for music school. It was not an easy piece for me back then, and I couldn't play it at the intended tempo, but still I was deeply attracted to the music because it really touched me, and I enjoyed it with all my heart. To be honest, I never really care about the indicated tempo haha. Some people may think it's important to play the music at a fast tempo. The faster, the better?! Well, I think it shows that someone has great musical techniques, which can be cool and dazzling, but I have always valued more of great musicality, the quality of being musical. Of course, it's for the best if you can have both, but choosing a tempo that makes you comfortable enough to express your music completely can never go wrong.

In fact, I'm not really fond of this piece I'm sharing with you today haha, but this was the first Schumann piece I performed on the stage, so it still means something to me. As I said, I like lots of Schumann's piano works, such as Op. 1, 2, 5, 17, 22...etc, but unfortunately not Op. 12. I do like the second piece in Op. 12 though. It is called "Aufschwung", and it is quite popular, so you might know it already, but I think I will record that someday and share it on my YouTube channel :)

One question for you, what is your favorite Schumann piano piece? Let me know in the comment section!
