Graduation Piano Recital

Here it comes! My graduation piano recital, the most exciting day of my four-year college life as a music student ♥️

Last month in the post My First Piano Concert I talked about the things to prepare for organizing a concert. That first piano concert was a joint concert, but now, this one was my piano recital, which completely belonged to me. I love it, and remember putting so much effort into it. Apart from all the practices at the piano for the recital repertoire for the whole year, I think I really worked hard on making recital program, recital poster, and invitation cards. In the program, I wrote so many words for my teachers, friends, and families. I hoped to let them know how thankful I was to their supports, so I felt like I was writing letters to them haha! I guess formally the program would include bio for academic achievements, musical experiences, etc. and program notes. However, I think It's even better to read what performers want to say to their audiences, how they feel about this recital, or how much they love being musicians. It's much more interesting to see these contents in the programs because when I go to recitals, I want to get to know these performers rather than just knowing these repertoires. And knowing what prizes they got or what concerts they were in doesn't really attract me. It doesn't help me understand who they are or how they feel about music. It's just my opinion, but what do you think?

I'm really glad that I looked so much better this time on the stage than how I was in my first piano concert. (It was terrible the first time -.-) My posture was certainly better, my facial expression was calmer, my reaction to those wrong notes was less awkward. However, even though I didn't look very nervous on the stage, I feel I took it too seriously somehow that the music was not flowing enough. It's almost like I was taking care of each note too much that now I wish I didn't focus on all those details when I performed on the stage. Going through all the details is necessary and crucial when you practice, but I guess being confident and presenting the music as a whole unit is much more important on the stage. Unfortunately, I think my music sounded easier and smoother when I played in the rehearsal, not in the performance :( But thankfully, ornaments in Praeludium sounded better when I performed. Corrente was better too, but still there were mistakes. It's different spot that I made mistake from the spot I made mistake in the rehearsal, but it means it was not stable enough, and that I really should have spent even more time on this piece. Oh and I think my chair was too low so that my shoulder looked awkward sometimes. My gown looked weird too when I sat on that chair. The stage lighting doesn't look good in the video. Sadly, I think my videographer didn't really know what I want to see. I don't understand why he kept adjusting the lens of the camera. I mean, zooming in and zooming out are okay, but there are too much, and keeping moving is not okay!

Okay, that's it for today. I just want to show you my real feelings, no matter good or bad! My favorite piece in this suite is Menuet I&II. What about you? Leave the comment and let me know!
